Now that I’m in my 30’s and the season is changing, my skin isn’t how it use to be when I was 21. I went from having super oily skin to dry/combination skin. So it’s definitely something I’ve been adjusting too, and trying to figure out my new skin-care routine.
For the past 3 months, I’ve been using these products and have finally found products that have been life-changing and making a difference with dry skin. I also use to deal with a lot of texture issues and I am happy to say that the texture is about 90% gone! I’ve been loving how my skin has been feeling and looking lately, so I’m excited to share all the products I’ve been using with you all.
By the way, this is in no way a sponsored post. I truly do love all the products, and have been using the products below faithfully (ok, well almost faithfully) every morning and night for the past 3 months.
I seriously wish I would have also taken a before picture of how my skin was, but sadly I didn’t, but I’m excited and COMFORTABLE to show you how my skin is today.
Morning Care Routine
I honestly keep it REALLY simple in the morning. Cleanse. Toner. Moisturize.
Step 1:
As soon as I wake up, I like to wash my face with either the Cetaphil cleanser or with I Image Skincare Vital C Cleanser. I do like switching between the two, especially since the I Image Skincare has Vitamin C in it. Another thing I like doing is I also like to wash my face with cold water to wake me up, and then switch it to warm to open up my pores. Then after cleansing my face, I turn it back to cold water when rinsing. So I’m not sure if it’s true or not, but I’ve heard that if you start off with washing your face with warm water, that it opens your pores and the cleanser can get all the dirt better than cold water, and then cold water closes your pores back up. So ever since I was told that, I’ve been doing it.
Step 2:
After washing my face, I damp my face with a clean towel/face cloth, and apply Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner with a cotton pad
Step 3:
Lastly, I apply a moisturizer. Typically, I use the Catephil Moisturizing lotion, but keep in mind it does not have SPF.
Night-Time Routine
When it comes to my night time care, it’s a little (or some may say a lot) in depth then my morning care routine, but don’t let the picture and steps scare you away. When you have your routine down it takes less than 10 minutes to do everything. Plus, I swear you will thank yourself for taking the 10 extra minutes every night to complete your night-time routine.
Step 1:
Garnier Cleanser- I’ve grown to love this product. I use this every night, ESPECIALLY, if I wear makeup. This product takes off most of your makeup with just using this. I love how gentle it is on my skin and doesn’t irritate it either, as I tend to have sensitive skin.
Step 2:
Just like the morning, I was my face right after using the cleansing water, and use the same products. Just like the morning, I don’t have 1 specific product I use every night to cleanse my face. I go between products, but I mostly use Cetaphil. I’ve been using Cetaphil products for a couple years now, and honestly LOVE the brand! I use to have extremely sensitive skin in the past, and Cetaphil would be the only product I could use. Now since my skin has changed, I am able to use different products on my skin, but still have to be careful of what I’m applying, otherwise it will irritate my skin.
Step 3:
After washing my wash, I ALWAYS apply a toner. I’ve been using Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner for a couple months now and love it. It cleans off any excess makeup off my face, really gets the dirt, and digs deep in my pores to get all that gunk out.
Step 4:
I love putting under eye cream nightly. I’ve noticed that using a cream will make my eyes less dry in the morning.
Step 5:
Before applying any serums on my face, I apply my favorite facial mist. I’ve been using Mario Bedescu’s facial mist for over a year now, and absolutely love it!
Step 6:
Another brand that I’ve been using for the past 3-4 months have been Yeouth Skincare. I’ve tried many of their products such as their hyaluronic serums, vitamin C serum, and their retinol serum, and LOVE the results I get from using the products. I don’t apply all 3 serums at once, but I do switch between the 3 every night. So, after I mist my face with the facial spray, I apply the serum IMMEDIATELY after misting my face. To receive the BEST results with Yeouth Skincare your face must be damp for the product to activate, per their instructions.
Step 7:
Ok, I discovered Bio Oil about 3 years ago, and wish I would have known about it so much longer. I swear by this product! If you have any scars it will diminish them or make them almost unnoticeable, and I love how baby soft my skin feels the next morning just from using this product.
Step 8:
My favorite night-time moisturizer is either Clinique, It Cosmetics, Cetaphil. I love switching between the 3. So, the key when applying moisturizer is to NOT mix or rub the moisturizer into your serums. Instead, push the moisturizer into your skin, so it sits right on top of all your serums. Think of the moisturizer as the locking mechanism to all the goodness that’s underneath it.
Step 9:
An important step that a lot of people tend to forget, is to moisturize their lips. My favorite lip moisturizer is Vaseline’s cocoa butter, and apply it nightly.
Additional steps that I do throughout the week, but not everyday
- Exfoliate | It’s important to exfoliate your skin at least 1-2x a week. I try to exfoliate at least twice a week. The purpose of exfoliating is to remove any dead skin from your face and to clean out any pores. I do this step right after STEP 2 and then continue with Step 3 and so on…
- Lip scrub | I try and exfoliate my lips with sugar lip scrub at least 1x a month. If I can remember, I try and do it more than 1x a month, but I’m going to be honest… I forget! But, I promise you.. your lips will thank you for exfoliating them. Especially when applying a lip balm to them once exfoliated. They become less chapped, and so soft! I complete this step right after STEP 1 so that way none of the lip scrub falls onto my clean and greased face. I then continue Step 2 and so on…
- Facial Masks | Doing a deep facial mask at least 1x a week or every other week, helps your skin so much. It really deep cleans your pores, and helps with shrinking pores as well. When I do a facial mask, I do this step right after STEP 2, and then follow Step 3 and so on afterwards.
- Sheet masks | If you are looking for more hydration, sheet masks are a great way to take in all the moisture and to keep the skin hydrated. I don’t use sheet mask often, but I do use them when traveling. If I do use sheet mask, I do this step right after STEP 5. I then follow with step 6 and so on afterwards.
Another step that I’ve noticed that has helped my skin clear up so much and also stay hydrated, is by drinking a lot of water. Drinking water has helped SOO much when it comes to healthy skin. Also, living a healthy life. I’ve changed the way I eat (I’m on keto), and that has helped a lot as well. I’ve noticed if I eat carbs + sugar the more I break out and my skin retaliates and hates me for that!
I know it may seem like a lot of steps at night, but TRUST ME, if you become accustom to your night-time routine you will thank yourself in the long-run and wonder why you never started a long time ago. I’m also not going to lie, there are times where I am so exhausted and don’t complete steps 1 through 9, but there is 1 thing that I do FOR SURE, and that’s clearing my skin with any makeup, applying witch hazel toner, and a moisturizer. But for the most part, I do fulfill my night-time routine, and I thank myself every morning that I did when I feel and see my skin improving!
