With school starting this month, we as parents are now panicking and/or stressed out because we like waiting last minute. Who’s with me? Or is it just me (I hope not).
I wanted to share with you all 5 things that I do to prepare not only the girls, but myself for when they go back to school.
1) Get them back on their routine
If you have a routine and don’t stick with that routine during summer time, nows the time to get them back to it. It’ll be hard for the kids to adjust back into their normal routine if you wait until school starts.
Typically for my family, when it comes to the summer times, they don’t have a bedtime and/or have to stick to our normal routine when they have school. I just let them be kids, have fun, and just let me have the summer… because they don’t get that freedom once school starts (lol).
2) Back to their school bedtime
This relates to number 1, but I definitely think it’s important to put your little ones back on their school bedtime routine at least 1-2 weeks before school starts, just so their bodies can adapt back to that difference.
For my girls, their bedtime is 9pm, but once 8pm hits that’s when they start getting ready for bed. Cleaning their room, shower, brush teeth, read for 10 minutes, and depending how well they did if they still have time they can play until it hits 9pm.
3) School refresher
Doing a school course refresher of what they just learned the previous year helps your kiddos out so much… TRUST ME! Just remember, they’ve been out of school for a little over 2 months. It’ll be much easier for them when school starts to catch on, rather than be lost.
4) Back to school shopping
If you haven’t done so already, do your back to school shopping now, before all those store get swamped! I like to try and get it done at least 3 weeks before school starts, just so I’m not dealing with the crowds or running low on supplies and having to go to multiple stores. Plan ahead of what you need!
5) Be prepared
Not only do you have to do back to school shopping, but also preparing for lunches, snacks, drinks, etc. Plan for what your kiddo(s) will be taking to lunch and having for snacks.
XOXO
